JD Hanks appreciation dinner

Join us In celebrating JD Hanks, a teacher, mentor, and coach whose influence reached far beyond the classroom.From 1969 to 2002, JD taught Architecture, German, and Drafting at Po-Hi, shaping generations of students with his knowledge, patience, humor, and belief in young people. For many, he was more than a teacher. He was a mentor, encourager, adventure leader, and example of what it means to live with curiosity and purpose.JD’s impact extended through his leadership of Post 69, where he helped students develop confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills. Under his guidance, members served the community, competed in multi-day canoe races in Arkansas, and experienced unforgettable sailing trips to the British Virgin Islands.JD also opened doors to the wider world by leading student trips to Germany, giving young people the chance to experience German language, history, and culture firsthand.JD was also the Po-Hi swim coach, where he brought out the best in young athletes.Later, his passion for restoring antique cars became another avenue for teaching. Through the Great Race, JD gave students the opportunity to work on, ride in, and compete with antique cars—learning teamwork, discipline, craftsmanship, and perseverance along the way.This dinner is a chance for former students and friends to gather, reconnect, share stories, and thank JD for the extraordinary role he played in so many lives.However you knew him, your presence will help honor a remarkable teacher and mentor.
